Other Activities

Many sport enthusiasts call this region an outdoor gymnasium as it boasts an array of sporting and leisure activities.

Whether you want a day or two off the bike or a family wanting to spend leisure time together, the Riviera and mountains can offer a host of activities.

Rivierabike can organise these in advance of your arrival. Simply contact us if there are any activities you would like to try and we will confirm availability and prices. All activities are available either locally or just a short drive away so you can easily mix them in with your biking.

This list is not exhaustive - if there is anything else you fancy trying then please let us know and we'll try our best to accommodate you.

Walking & Sightseeing

Be it an all day hike in the mountains, or a stroll around the quaint villages and through the beautiful olive groves, there are plenty of different itineraries to suit from the hardened fell walker to a family stroll.

There is an abundance of signposted and marked paths along the valley and we can provide directions and maps for the more elusive trail.

Walking is a great way of seeing the local countryside and wildlife as well as the medieval villages. This area is rich in ancient architecture from roman single arch bridges to the many churches which range from ascetic to incredibly ornate.

For the more adventurous, we can provide you with a detailed itinerary and transport to access the higher mountain peaks then hike back to the village where you can relax those tired muscles at the natural pool.

Or why not have a stroll along the coastal path if you just want to relax!

Horse Riding

A relatively relaxed way to see the countryside is by horseback. It is possible to have half day excursions along the many double tracks and mule trails along the olive groves, up to full multi-day tours over the mountains.

So if you look good in jodhpurs drop us a line to obtain further information.

Rock Climbing

There is an abundance of climbing here from the famous rock faces above Finale Ligure, to the Loreto lime stone cliffs in the Argentina valley and the many rock faces along the Roya valley.

There are routes for the beginner to the advanced as well as good bouldering.

Via Ferrata

Not getting enough adrenaline? then try Via Ferrata. Via Ferrata gives access to cliffs, mountains and gorges and other places that would otherwise be the preserve of the experienced rock climber.

Via Ferrata literally translates to Iron ways, so called because iron handrails, wire ropes and ladders are placed along cliffs along with fox wires and bridges. They allow walkers of modest ability the chance to experience a big mountain environment, but are not suitable for those without a good head for heights. Be warned!

These paths were originally constructed by soldiers during the 1914-1918 conflicts for acces to front lines over the mountains and to the many forts dotted along the Italian mountains. Later these protected routes and even tunnels through the mountains were used to great effect and enjoyment by mountaineers. The idea caught on and the number of ferratas grew steadily. There are now literally dozens spread throughout the regions and their popularity has led to their appearance in both France and Switzerland.

Routes vary from a couple of hours to a full day and are carried out in Tende, La Brigue or Peille on the French side of the valley. Prices are from €65 Euro for half a day Via Ferrata and includes transport to and from the activity, third party guide and equipment.

Canyoning & Rockpools

Another favourite activity and completely bonkers. Above our valley in Colla Melosa is a manic 10km route through waterfalls, pools, over rocks - a real adrenaline rush! So if you want to get your pants wet, let us know and a trip can be organised for you.

However if you just want to swim or lie by beautiful rock pools nestled in the cliffs, just grab a towel, a book and a few beers and relax.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Limone Piemonte, our closest ski resort which is only an hour and a half away is known as the ‘mountain of two Rivieras’ . The resort has a typical Mediterranean feel, while still delivering on the slopes, with extensive runs and off piste and no crowds.

Limone is well catered for all abilities especially intermediates with 46 runs adding to a total of 96km with the longest run being 6km.

For the boarders there are a couple of snowparks as well as marked and graded off piste runs...so powder a plenty.

The 2006 winter Olympics in Turin has had a huge knock on effect to the ski resorts of Italy by installing new chairlifts and new mountain top restaurants and bars.

Rivierabike can offer bike/ski packages so please contact us for further details.

Go-Karting

For the petrol heads or those that fancy screaming along at 60mph 3 inches off the ground - this is a must do experience. Situated in Arma di Taggia, (where Michael Schumacher occasionally trained) this is great experience if speed is your thing.

City Visits & Shopping

Genova, San Remo and Monaco; not many cities have the glitz and glamour that these three have to offer. From the exclusive boutiques and the millionaires yachts, to the beaches and, of course, the Casinos.

The region is also the biggest producer of olive oil. There is an olive museum in Imperia you can visit or the many stores where you can try the local olive oil and buy a few litres to take home with you.

San Remo

Just 20km from our base in Molini, San Remo is the quintessential Riviera resort town. It has many great attractions; from the historical centre and the shops of Via Roma, to the surrounding beaches and the old harbour.

If you are after a bargain, San Remo has a market twice a week, and if your plastic stretches further then you can visit the boutiques of all the famous Italian designers, such as Armani and Valentino.

Or maybe you'd prefer to stroll in the old centre amongst the ancient buildings and churches and then rest in one of the many cafés, just watching the world go by. Or relax on its beaches.

San Remo comes even more alive in the evenings with bustling bars and restaurants, street entertainment, theatres, clubs and the world famous casino.

Monaco

There's not much we can say here about Monaco that you don’t already know, the ultimate billionaires playground - you can mingle there too! Monaco is just an hour from our base by train and even quicker by car, at 40 minutes.

You don’t have to be mega rich to enjoy Monaco as you can do practically everything the wealthy do (well almost) from driving a Ferrari around the F1 circuit, gambling at the Casino and eating at fine but not too expensive restaurants.

Rivierabike offers a taxi service to Monaco or San Remo for a competitive rate.

Genova

Before Liverpool was awarded the European City of Culture tag, it was Genova that held this prestigious title.

From Museums to Art and Operas to music gigs - this city has it all. It is also the capital of Liguria and is the busiest port in Italy, where all the cruise liners dock. Genova is about 1.5 hours away by train.
